24 Years of PO “ALLIANCE.GLOBAL”: 130+ Projects and Achievements That Changed Thousands of Lives

26.10.2026

On October 25, 2026, PO “ALLIANCE.GLOBAL” turned 24. Over those years: more than 130 projects and studies, a network of shelters, safe spaces in 8 regions, and Ukraine’s first pilot of pre-exposure prophylaxis for HIV.

Here is the organization’s story — in dates, programs, and numbers.

2002. How It Started

In October 2002, members of LGBTQI+ communities founded the organization for LGBTQI+ communities. They still run it, and most of the people who deliver its services come from those same communities.

By 2003 we had launched HIV and STI prevention programs for men who have sex with men. At the time, almost no one talked about this out loud, and testing was out of reach for many.

We Were First

2017 — we conducted the first comprehensive study of chemsex among men who have sex with men in Kyiv: more than 100 respondents, together with the Center for Social Expertise of the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

2018 — we were the first in Ukraine to pilot oral PrEP, together with the Alliance for Public Health and the Kyiv City AIDS Center. We started with 100 courses of treatment.

2024 — long-acting injectable PrEP launched in Ukraine. The pilot was organized by the Public Health Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine in partnership with PO “ALLIANCE.GLOBAL”, the Alliance for Public Health, PEPFAR, CDC, USAID, and WHO. On August 15 in Kyiv, the country’s first injection went to Leonid Polishchuk, a member of our team.

Today PrEP is a national standard of medical care.

We Change More Than Lives — We Change the Rules

Since January 2018 we have been co-founders of the National LGBTI Consortium #LGBTI_PRO, together with the LGBT Association “LIGA”, Gay Forum of Ukraine, and Spektr Kharkiv.

Together we push for registered civil partnerships, for amendments to the Criminal Code covering hate crimes, and for public funding of health services for MSM and LGBTQI+ people.

In 2022 alone, 4 homophobic bills were blocked.

In November 2025 we held the 18th consecutive National LGBTQI+ Conference — the annual forum where communities, organizations, and experts set shared priorities. The 19th conference takes place on December 7–8, 2026, in Kyiv.

200+ People Defending Fundamental Rights

For more than six years we have been building national networks of paralegals. We built the first one from scratch, then passed that experience on to other communities. Today those networks operate under a single umbrella: the National Paralegal Hub.

A paralegal is someone from the community who has been trained to provide first-line legal assistance, free of charge and confidentially.

In 2025:

  • 1,025 people received legal assistance
  • 327 cases brought by MSM, 94% resolved successfully
  • 915 cases brought by people living with HIV, 93% resolved successfully

We also monitor the media for hate speech every year.

2022. When Home Stopped Being Safe

We opened our first shelter for MSM and LGBTQI+ people in Kyiv back in 2019.

After February 24, 2022, the network grew to five shelters — Kyiv, Lviv, Dnipro, Kharkiv, Chernivtsi — plus safe spaces in 8 regions. Some shelters were later closed as the need for relocation eased. Three are running today: Kyiv, Lviv, and Dnipro.

In 2025: 170 people got a roof over their heads, 881 food vouchers and 616 hygiene vouchers were issued, clothing was handed out 366 times, and 83 emergency cash payments were made. Twenty-one cases of gender-based violence were handled.

Mental Health Support, Free of Charge

MentalTalk is our free mental health program for LGBTQI+ communities. It grew out of what people needed during the first months of the full-scale war.

In person in Kyiv, Lviv, Dnipro, Kharkiv, Chernivtsi, Cherkasy, and Poltava; online across Ukraine. Psychologists, psychiatrists, and group therapy.

In 2025:

  • 4,587 individual sessions with a psychologist
  • 865 people supported
  • 204 psychiatric consultations
  • 150 antidepressant prescriptions reimbursed

A Safe Space

Our community centers operate in 7 regions: Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Poltava, Cherkasy, and Chernivtsi. In Odesa we work on the premises of our partner, the LGBT Association “LIGA”.

They offer counseling, educational events, and psychologist-led groups.

In 2025: 1,341 events and 1,439 unique visitors, plus 3,075 peer-to-peer consultations.

We also help people make a living: 125 people earned certificates in the fundamentals of artificial intelligence, and the BLOOM program supported 45 businesses across 7 regions.

And we train other NGOs to work with LGBTQI+ people without prejudice.

One Year. Here’s What It Looks Like in Numbers

  • 12,979 services delivered
  • 5,299 people supported
  • 7,110 people tested for HIV
  • 16,692 consultations on HIV, STI, and hepatitis prevention
  • over 5 million reach on social media
  • 11 projects, 108 staff and consultants, 20+ volunteers

And that’s just 2025. More is coming.

The details are in our 2025 annual report.
