ALLIANCE.GLOBAL, Public Organization has published a report entitled ‘Needs of LGBTIQ+ People in Humanitarian Crisis: Findings from a Study in Dnipro, Lviv, and Kharkiv’
Over recent years, the Alliance.Global has played a key role in supporting LGBTIQ+ people across various regions of Ukraine, combining interventions in the fields of public health, humanitarian response, legal aid, psychosocial support, advocacy and economic empowerment. At the same time, the dynamic context of the war requires a regular reassessment of priorities, support formats and response tools. A systematic assessment of the community’s needs is a prerequisite for planning humanitarian response programmes and developing post-war recovery strategies.
To this end, ALLIANCE.GLOBAL, in partnership with the Danish Refugee Council (DRC), has launched an assessment of the current needs of LGBTIQ+ people in Dnipro, Lviv and Kharkiv. The assessment presented in the report is based on data from focus group discussions (FGDs) conducted by trained moderators from among the organisation’s staff. This is the first such comprehensive assessment of LGBTIQ+ communities since the start of the large-scale war in February 2022.
The aim of the study was to develop a comprehensive understanding of the priority needs of LGBTIQ+ people who use the organisation’s services, in order to inform programme planning, scale up support and strengthen advocacy efforts at local, national and international levels. This report is intended to serve as an analytical basis for dialogue with donors, government bodies and partner organisations regarding the development of more inclusive and context-sensitive mechanisms for responding to the challenges of wartime in Ukraine.
