On 9 July 2024, ALLIANCE.GLOBAL’s HR specialist Olena Luhova participated in a crucial event focused on the inclusion of people with disabilities in humanitarian activities. The training and round table were organised by the NGO Platform and conducted by their director, Joanna Garbalinska.

The event proved to be exceptionally informative and practically beneficial. Participants had the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the concept of “disability”, particularly in the Ukrainian context, and discuss relevant terminology. Considerable attention was devoted to analysing the barriers faced by people with disabilities and discussing potential ways to overcome them.

Particularly valuable was the practical experience gained through working on a real-world case study in collaboration with colleagues from the National Assembly of People with Disabilities and Fight For Right. This allowed participants to acquire specific knowledge and skills that can be applied in their daily work.

During the event, two important principles were highlighted, which drew particular attention from the participants: “Service follows the person” and “Nothing about us without us”. These phrases emphasise the importance of tailoring services to the needs of people with disabilities and the necessity of their active involvement in decision-making processes.

The concluding part of the event was a round table where participants discussed critical issues regarding access to employment, inclusive education, and public transport for people with disabilities.

Participation in this event provided ALLIANCE.GLOBAL with a valuable opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by people with disabilities and to begin developing strategies for creating more inclusive practices when interacting with these population groups. Such events are crucial for building a society where everyone can fully realise their potential.

ALLIANCE.GLOBAL remains committed to the principles of inclusion and equality, and we continue to work towards making our programmes and services accessible to all, regardless of their physical abilities.
