On the 2nd of June in the Central policlinic of Podil district of Kyiv (St. Mostytska, 9) held a roundtable with representatives the medical community of Podil district, the Department of Health and NGO`s activists. The event was dedicated to organization of cooperation in order to overcome of stigma and discrimination regarding vulnerable communities IDUs, sex workers and MSM at the medical field and thereby improving access the representatives of key populations to health services.
The work will be a lot, because some health workers quite partially attitude to vulnerable groups. For example, For example, they still believe that MSM are people with mental disabilities.
The event was organized by the Public Organization “Club Eney” in cooperation with NGO “Gay-alliance” under within the program “European choice – medical services without stigma and discrimination” on Obolon, Podil and Shevchenko districts of Kyiv, with financial support of USAID project «HIV reform in action”.
The project aims at implementing of information campaign to combat with stigma and discrimination among medical staff concerning vulnerable groups such as injecting drug users (IDUs), sex workers, MSM (men who have sex with men), PLWH (people living with HIV) to obtain access to health and social services at the district level. Within the project is planning to conduct free study on territory the district of health workers, conducting of informational activities in the premises of cultural institutions, forming the base of prepared friendly physicians who are working without stigma and discrimination with vulnerable groups.
