ALLIANCE.GLOBAL’s clients are the first in Ukraine to join the innovative approach of HIV prevention. In December 2017, the first 100 MSM and trans-women will be able to take preference of free Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) services.
PrEP is a prophylaxis method that allows HIV-negative people to reduce the risk of HIV infection through the regular use of tenofovir-based drug that prevent the development of the virus in body. In order to minimize the risks this drug should be taken daily. The effectiveness of this method of prevention has been confirmed by a number of studies, and the World Health Organization in September 2015 recommended PrEP as prophylactic method for key populations. Today this revolutionary method of prevention has been already implemented in the USA, France, Australia, Brazil, Switzerland, Canada, Germany, Italy, South Africa, Thailand and others. Ukraine became the second to implement PrEP in the Eastern Europe and Central Asia region after Georgia.
As the largest Ukrainian HIV-service MSM-organization ALLIANCE.GLOBAL has won the right to implement a pilot project for the PrEP implementation among men who have sex with men and transgender women. We are glad that our clients will be the first to take all advantages of this type of prevention.
Participation in this project involves the provision of a free annual PrEP course, free consultations of physicians and social workers, free quarterly medical examinations (including before the project starts and at the end of it), free vaccination against viral hepatitis B. In addition, project participants will receive several bonuses: an organizer for more convenient storage and reception of tablets and a lubricant in tubes.
By joining to the implementation of PrEP ALLIANCE.GLOBAL becomes the organization that provides comprehensive HIV prevention services, namely: pre- and post-exposure prophylaxis, rapid testing, counseling and social support to medical institutions, “green corridor” for clients, support at the start of admission and adherence to ART, support for HIV-positive MSM.
